Out of the box - beautiful. The rugged kind of beauty you'd expect. The head is hammered to finish with what looks like a ground polish down to a sharpened edge. Noted on the edge of this blade is a small Nick in the edge, something I think will disappear with is and sharpening. The wooden handle is gorgeous and built ergonomically perfectly for the tasks suited to this hatchet. The leather sheath is also superb, it smells of real leather and is built with an interesting design. It does allow you to slide a belt through to holster the sheath, though it may be unpractical and difficult to deholster.Overall, A+ product. Watch for shipping, I believe that is what happened to mine.

1.0 out of 5 stars ... to be excited in awaiting the arrival of this bad boy. Then it came
Reviewed in the United States on February 2, 2016
I couldn't help but to be excited in awaiting the arrival of this bad boy. Then it came... through the might of UPS. Woohoo! After unpackaging my little baby (Well, that's what I was going to call it), I noticed the Hults Bruk signature on the haft was already fading (The "Bruk" part wasn't even etched into the wood like "Hults" was). No worries, it's just cosmetic anyways, right?

Moving on, I did a quick glance over of the head and realized the last few letters of the trademark stamp failed to fully engrave. Aesthetically speaking, it was a bit of a turn off. That's fine though, I'm sure my little baby would still show that pesky timber who's boss. Then I scrutinized the head more thoroughly and recognized the steel didn't fully roll over into a complete weld on the bottom side. As a matter of fact, there was almost a quarter of an inch of steel left gapped. I cringed and almost let out a tear.

There were just too many things about this particular piece that left me unsatisfied, and I'm usually one of the last people to complain. The lack of quality on what's supposed to be a high-end axe astounded me, especially for $120 USD. I expected a better level of craftsmanship and attention to detail. Maybe I just got the runt of the litter, you know, the ugly duckling. Who knows? Bad days (or products in this case) happen, you can't fault a company over one or two. I've requested a refund either way. Hopefully the next Hults Bruk I purchase will be of better quality.
